Sustainability Series: BERTA VIVE

Watch Trailer

Berta Cáceres, a social and environmental justice activist and 2015 Goldman Environmental Prize winner, was murdered on March 3, 2016. An indigenous Lenca woman, Cáceres was the co-founder of the National Council of Popular and Indigenous Organizations of Honduras (COPINH) and actively opposed dam and illegal logging projects in her native Honduras.

Her assassination is just one in a string of deadly attacks on environmental-human rights defenders in recent years. BERTA VIVE/BERTA LIVES is a film that remembers Cáceres’ legacy, documenting the life and death of one of the world’s most famous environmental activists in recent history.

The film will follow a 30-minute introduction from Bethany N. Bella, a Voinovich School Undergraduate Research Scholar who has followed the plight of environmental-human rights defenders for the last 2 years. She studies Feminist Political Ecology at Ohio University.
