Based on a true story, Searching for Sugar Man unravels the mystery behind the greatest 70’s rock icon who never made it big. Discovered in the late 60’s at a bar in Detroit, Sixto Rodriguez’s soulful melodies and catchy lyrics landed him the golden opportunity to record an album. Although believed to change the future of music, the album didn’t sell in the states and left Rodriguez to disappear amongst the rumors of a gruesome on-stage suicide. While the few fans he had mourned over their loss, a bootleg recording was leaked into South Africa where over the next two decades he become a country wide phenomenon. This film follows the story of two South African citizens who set out to find what really happened to their hero’s fate and what follows is an inspirational story in which they find far more in their quest than they had originally anticipated.
