In this beautifully-animated biographical drama, the life of Marcel Pagnol unfolds as we encounter the French novelist and playwright, at the height of his fame in mid-1950’s Paris, being tasked by Elle magazine to write a serial piece detailing his childhood. As Pagnol begins to revisit the mental landscapes of his adolescence, his Provence, and his first encounters with Love, vibrant memories of his old childhood self begin to emerge, as do the wonderful events that served to enrich his life and inform his artistic vision. Being able to regain this seemingly-lost sense of self, and being able to be the hero of one’s own story, give Pagnol the necessary creative jolt to make his Elle project something worth remembering.
