In the Russian-speaking neighborhood of New York City’s Brighton Beach, a young Uzbek-American sex worker, Anora, makes ends meet as a stripper in a gentleman’s club run by a boss who frequently sets Anora up with Russian clients since she is somewhat fluent in the language. A chance encounter with Vanya, the son of wealthy Russian oligarch, leads to a Cinderalla story whereby the two young lovers decide to elope to Las Vegas and wed one another. However, Vanya’s parents are none too happy with their son’s choice of bride and arrive in the city to annul the newly-minted marriage.

Written and directed by award-winning filmmaker Sean Baker (Tangerine, The Florida Project) this lively cinematic tale has been met with widespread acclaim from both critics and audiences, in addition to taking home the coveted Palm d’Or at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival.
