SUPERMAN – Last Day: Thursday, August 7th

Watch Trailer Director: James Gunn
Writer(s): James Gunn
Cast: David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, Nathan Fillion

Director James Gunn ushers in the on-screen return one of the greatest superheroes of all time…Superman!

Reporter Clark Kent has divulged his secret identity as The Man of Steel to his colleague (and romantic flame) Lois Lane and, after stopping a potentially earth-shattering armed conflict, agrees to let Lane interview him. It becomes clear that Superman’s perception of his role as a protector of the people of Earth is a bit at odds with governments, militaries, and other powerful forces that are also vying for a stake in world events. In other words, Superman believes that he stands for ideals like Truth, Justice, Humanitarianism, and, essentially, Goodness; however, the complex modern world that he inhabits is not always capable of valuing these ideals to the same degree. Therefore, he must do his utmost to bring into balance the otherworldly gifts that come with being a Kryptonian with what it means to be human.

PAVEMENTS – Last Day: Thursday, June 19th

Watch Trailer Director: Alex Ross Perry
Cast: Stephen Malkmus, Bob Nastanovich, Scott Kannberg, Mark Ibold, Steve West, Joe Keery, Jason Schwartzman, Tim Heidecker, Michael Esper

Blending spoof-y satire and earnest documentary filmmaking, Alex Ross Perry takes us into the world of one of the most revered indie rock bands of all time…Pavement! By combining threads from Slanted! Enchanted! A Pavement Musical — a “jukebox musical” featuring songs from the band’s discography that tells the story of a young musician who travels to New York and falls in-and-out of love — with documentary footage of band members Stephen Malkmus, Bob Nastanovich, Scott Kannberg, Steve West, and Mark Ibold, Pavements is a music biopic unlike anything you’ve ever seen…the perfect tribute to a band whose music broke new ground when they hit the scene in the 90’s and reshaped alternative rock as we know it.

In addition to the band members, this unique and experimental film also stars, among others, Jason Schwartzman, Tim Heidecker, Joe Keery (Stranger Things), Michael Esper, and Sonic Youth’s Kim Gordon.

Though Pavement is the star and the performers in its orbit are all in supporting roles, “Pavements” is distinguished by cinematic artistry that’s as distinctive as it is personal. “Range Life” may be a Pavement story, but “Pavements” is a Perry film.

SECRET MALL APARTMENT – Last Day: Thursday, May 22nd

Watch Trailer Director: Jeremy Workman
Cast: Michael Townsend, Colin Bliss, Adriana Valdez Young, Andrew Oesch

Get ready for a documentary like no other: Secret Mall Apartment, a new film by auteur Jeremy Workman who is known for choosing subjects that lean heavily towards the eccentric, follows eight Rhode Island youths who, in 2003, built a secret apartment inside a busy mall and lived in it for nearly half a decade. The group filmed the construction of and activities within the apartment over the course of four years, using cheap low-budget cameras that they bought in the mall itself. After 17 years, Workman was able to bring the original eight participants back together to talk about the endeavor and how it evolved from artful prank to urban legend to life-changing experience.

THE BALLAD OF WALLIS ISLAND – Last Day: Thursday, May 22nd

Watch Trailer Director: James Griffiths
Writer(s): Tom Basden, Tim Key
Cast: Tom Basden, Tim Key, Carey Mulligan

After winning a fortune in the lottery, eccentric music fan Charles has relocated to a remote island where he hopes to satisfy his dream of reuniting his favorite band McGwyer Mortimer. The only problem is that the musical duo are former lovers whose falling out was the cause of the band’s dissolving in the first place. There’s also the fact that Charles is the sole member of the audience for the proposed gig – a fact that neither McGwyer nor Mortimer is aware of when they agree to do the show. As the two musicians reconnect, it remains to be seen whether the interaction will smooth over folk-rock duo’s troubled romantic past and result in the desired harmony that Charles hopes to achieve.

English poet and comedian Tim Key stars alongside Tom Basden and Carey Mulligan in this tender and spirited tale full of laugh-out-loud awkward comedy of a decidedly British bent.
