“It All Ends Here”
Grlić has stated that this will be the final film in his illustrious 50-year career as a filmmaker: “I am glad that, as my last film, I am filming a love story deeply immersed in Croatian reality.”
About the film
Lawyer Maks Pinter successfully defends a wealthy and politically-connected entrepreneur charged with the murder of two employees. Pinter, however, ultimately becomes disillusioned with his client and has the means to blackmail the magnate. He joins forces with his former lover, who also has a grudge against the tycoon, in an attempt to destroy the psychopathic businessman’s public reputation. However, the two ultimately find themselves pitted against a bulwark of sinister power that seeks to destroy their reputations instead.
Blending together elements of a political crime thriller, film noir, romance, and satire, It All Ends Here is taut tale of intrigue where no character can claim the moral high-ground. Created as an attempt by Grlić and co-writer Ante Tomić to adapt the difficult-to-adapt 1938 Miroslav Krleža novel On the Edge of Reason, the film makes a strong statement about corruption in the Croatian socio-political sphere by one of the country’s most-renown filmmakers.
