IT WAS JUST AN ACCIDENT – Last Day: Tuesday, December 23rd

Watch Trailer Director: Jafar Pahani
Awards: Palm d'Or - Cannes Film Festival; Best Motion Picture (nom), Best Director (nom), Best Screenplay (nom) - Golden Globes

This latest film from award-winning Iranian filmmaker Jafar Panahi – who has been imprisoned multiple times for his critiques of the Iranian regime – is a modern-day, noir-ish thriller that examines the desire for and consequences of seeking revenge for past transgressions.

When a chance auto accident brings a man and his car to the garage for repairs, Azerbaijani auto mechanic Vahid becomes convinced that the prosthetic-legged driver is the same man who once tortured Vahid while he was locked away in an Iranian prison years ago. Vahid kidnaps the man, knocks him unconscious, and takes him to the desert where he intends to get the man to confess in the presence of others who were tortured. However, no one is quite sure whether the alleged torturer is actually the man they now have in custody. In a case where the roles of victim and perpetrator are reversed, it remains to be seen how far one is willing to go to exact revenge.
