Lanthimos has constructed Kinds of Kindness around the principle of a “triptych” – three separate segments that follow characters dealing with existentially challenging situations: A man strives to out-maneuver the path that life has predetermined for him, a police officer and his wife wrestle with uncertainty after she suspiciously returns from an alleged drowning incident, and a woman goes in search of an unorthodox spiritual guide as the result of a prophesy.
