Australian director Adrian Chiarella offers up a heart-rending queer horror-romance that tells the story of Naim, an introverted teen who is forced to relocate when his mother moves him to a rural town lorded over by a fundamentalist religious group. Naim meets Ryan, a fellow classmate, and the two begin a secret romance. The relationship is discovered, however, and the religious group force the two boys to undergo a conversion therapy session that is more like an exorcism. During the ritual, things go awry as a supernatural being is released that has the power assume the form of another person’s desire. As the boys attempt to rekindle their secret love affair, neither is sure whether the person they love is real or if it is the demon.
