LURKER

A chance meeting with popstar Oliver prompts Matthew, a shy young L.A. retail worker, to schmooze his way into the “in crowd” that surrounds Oliver. He soon discovers, however, that maintaining acceptance in this hip new world, and keeping the attention of his new famous acquaintance, is harder than it looks. With a huge group of people all vying for a piece of Oliver, Matthew struggles to keep from straining the new-found bond with Oliver and prove his worth. His efforts soon evolve into a twisted, life-and-death game of cat-and-mouse as Matthew strives for validation in the eyes of a person whose fame keeps him just out of reach.

The debut feature film from writer/director Alex Russell, Lurker examines our modern-day fixations with the cult of celebrity, how far we’ll go to be recognized by the people we adore, and the lesson that affection is not always a two-way street.
