The Angels’ Share

Watch Trailer Director: Ken Loach
Writer(s): Paul Laverty
Cast: Paul Brannigan, John Henshaw, Gary Maitland
Awards: Won the 2012 Cannes Film Festival Jury Prize

THE ANGELS’ SHARE is a comic fable about wasted talent and what happens when we are given a chance in life. It would be hard to see Robbie as a man worthy of redemption. He’s constantly watching out for a gang of thugs looking to settle a family grudge, his girlfriend is giving birth to a baby while her father offers him money to leave Glasgow, and he’s serving 300 hours of community service. But when Robbie meets Harry, the gruff but benevolent man in charge of his sentence, he finds a hidden talent for Scotch whiskey – and a new chance at life. For distillers the angels’ share is the whiskey lost to evaporation each year, and that little fact makes a rare cask of whiskey the perfect target for a heist. A hilarious story about second chances, THE ANGELS’ SHARE is tender crowd-pleaser from legendary filmmaker Ken Loach (“The Wind that Shakes the Barley”, “Kes”) and screenwriter Paul Laverty.

Trashed

Watch Trailer Director: Candida Brady
Cast: Jeremy Irons
Awards: Won the Earth Grand Prix Special Award at the Tokyo International Film Festival

TRASHED is a provocative investigation of one of the fastest growing industries in North America. The garbage business. The film examines a fundamental element of modern American culture…the disposal of what our society defines as “waste.” It is an issue influenced by every American, most of whom never consider the consequences. Nor, it seems, the implications to our biosphere. At times humorous, but deeply poignant, TRASHED examines the American waste stream fast approaching a half billion tons annually.

What are the effects all this waste will have on already strained natural resources? Why is so much of it produced? While every American creates almost 5 pounds of it every day, who is affected most? And who wants America to make more?

The film analyzes the causes and effects of the seemingly innocuous act of “taking out the garbage” while showcasing the individuals, activists, corporate and advocacy groups working to affect change and reform the current model. TRASHED is an informative and thought-provoking film everyone interested in the future of sustainability should see.

Watch Trailer Director: Rodney Ascher
Cast: Bill Blakemore, Geoffrey Cocks, Juli Kearns
Awards: Won the 2012 Gold Hugo Award for Best Documentary at the Chicago International Film Festival

A subjective documentary that explores the numerous theories about the hidden meanings within Stanley Kubrick’s film THE SHINING (1980). The film may be over 30 years old but it continues to inspire debate, speculation, and mystery. Five very different points of view are illuminated through voice over, film clips, animation and dramatic reenactments. Together they’ll draw the audience into a new maze, one with endless detours and dead ends, many ways in, but no way out.
