About the films

He’s Only Missing (1978, 30 min)

When her father, Lt. Col. Robert Norman Smith USMC, was not among a group of American POWs released in 1973 from Vietnam, filmmaker Robin Smith opted to make this short film to address her feelings of being stuck in limbo due to the lack of information and the lack of closure related to her father’s predicament. After all, without a clear sense of whether her father had perished as an inmate or was still alive, Smith was torn between wanting to grieve and wanting to keep hope alive.

Letting Go (1995, 12 min)

Letting Go is a short documentary film that details Robin Smith’s efforts to search for clues to her father’s fate in the jungles of Southeast Asia.
