About the film
Blending genres, provoking awareness about socio-political issues, and adding a healthy dose of weirdness, Bacurau has been wowing critics and audiences alike since its release in 2019!
A small community in rural Brazil comes together to for a funeral to pay their respects to Carmelita, considered by all to be the elder matriarch of the village. After the event takes place, however, strange things begin to happen: the village seems to have disappeared from online maps and satellite photos, strange people visit the out-of-the-way location, and the villagers witness what they think to be a UFO sighting. Moreover, an ongoing water dispute with a wealthy city up-river brings unforeseen violence to the community when the corrupt mayor of the wealthy city arrives to secure the electoral support from the villagers. The villagers are forced to take up arms and defend their humble farms and traditional way of life.
