About the film
“I traveled 981 miles, from Pittsburgh to Cairo, Illinois, with several things in mind. I questioned the river’s true identity. I asked, ‘Is it solely a commercial highway essential to the economic well-being of the United States? Or is it a natural wonder providing incredible opportunities for recreational users? This documentary “shows how [the Ohio River], once called ‘the beautiful river’, but now derided by some as the dirtiest river in America, is an invaluable asset. The film brings to life the people and choices that can make the Ohio a beautiful asset once again.”
About the speaker
In a career spanning more than 30 years, Louisville, KY-based filmmaker Morgan Atkinson has brought to life a diverse gallery of subjects — from the spiritual journey of Thomas Merton to Kentucky High-School Basketball. His documentaries have been seen frequently on PBS, both in Kentucky and nationwide since the late 1980’s.
