When Iman, a devout lawyer with a strong moral compass, gets promoted as a judge to Tehran’s Islamic Revolutionary Court, he looks forward to the opportunity to move up in the world. However, political unrest in Iran erupts with citizens protesting the human rights violations of the nation’s government. Iman, thus, finds himself in the unenviable position of having to kowtow to the state by anonymously passing judgement (often without a fair trial) on people accused of crimes against the Republic – often sentencing hundreds of people a day to death. Moreover, a handgun given to Iman by the state for his protection goes missing under mysterious circumstances and results in the slaying of a protester. Iman suspects a family member, sympathetic to the protesters, of the crime. As the unrest intensifies, Iman’s anonymity is undermined when his identity is leaked on social media. He decides to flee Tehran with his family. When they reach safety, Iman puts his own family on trial, hoping to clear his name; however, he may instead end up destroying the last thread of stability in his unravelling life.
