New York City professional piano tuner Harry Horowitz has an interesting apprentice: a young man, Niki, who is the son of one of Harry’s late friends and who suffers from a condition called “hyperacusis”. This condition gives Niki extremely sensitive hearing, which makes him an excellent choice to learn the job of tuning some of the city’s most prestigious instruments. One day, however, Harry forgets the combination to a safe that stores his valuables, and he discovers that Niki’s ailment also gives him the uncanny talent to be a safe-cracker when the young man figures out how to open the locked safe using his special ears. Later, Niki encounters a group of thieves, employs his talents to help them with their crime, and ends up working for one of the city’s crime lords. When Harry becomes sick, however, Niki is forced into a delicate balance act of choosing between his loyalty to his mentor and to his underworld employer.
The debut narrative film from Oscar-winning documentarian Daniel Roher, Tuner is a fantastic new crime thriller starring newcomer Leo Woodall (The White Lotus) and Academy Award winner Dustin Hoffman.
