Director: Greta Gerwig
Welcome to Athens, Bobcats! Did you know there’s an indie movie theater in the heart of the city, right on Court St..? We’re currently undergoing some repairs but you can still stop by the Athena Cinema at 20 S. Court St. and check out what we have to offer!
As a gesture of goodwill towards all of you new additions to our diverse community, we’ve elected to host a FREE (for students) movie screening in your honor on top of the Athens City Parking Garage:
Wednesday, August 30th at 9:00 p.m. – LADY BIRD
(Seating for the screening will begin at 8:00 p.m. – the actual start time will depend on how quickly it gets dark after sunset. Non-student admission is only $5. )
And, when you come, you can not only have a look at the magnificent marquee of our 108-year-old theater, you can also check out the movies we’re playing, peruse our great selection of Athena merch, say hello to our amazing staff, and get a limited-edition student loyalty card (or, if you’re really enthusiastic, help us out by becoming a member – the benefits are totally worth it!)
Surely, like everyone who doesn’t live under a rock, you’ve seen Barbie, right..? Well, Lady Bird is by Greta Gerwig who also made the hit film about the pink princess. Released in 2017, Ladybird is a coming-of-age drama about a young girl who is on the cusp of graduating from high school and moving on to the next chapter of her life. While there are no song-and-dance numbers in this awesomely understated film, there’s lots of other stuff in it that you incoming freshmen can identify with!
Free admission is brought to you by
