MAIDEN with Dr. Claire Warren-Russell

Watch Trailer Director: Alex Holmes
Cast: Tracy Edwards, Jeni Mundy, Mikaela Von Koskull

In 1989, the very idea of a competitive all-female sailboat crew was nearly inconceivable to the manly world of open-ocean yacht racing. They’d never make it to the start of the Whitbread Round the World Race, much less survive to the finish. They’d never find funding. They didn’t have the strength or skill. They’d die at sea. Did that many professional female sailors even exist?

Maiden is the story of Tracy Edwards, a 24-year-old cook on charter boats, who became the skipper of the first ever all-female crew to enter the Whitbread Round the World Race in 1989.

An encore screening of the hit summer documentary in celebration of National Girls and Women in Sports Day. Maiden’s doctor and crew member Dr. Claire Warren-Russell will host a Q&A after the film.

An all-women crew knocked the sexist world on its ass by winning this 1989 yacht race. This dazzling doc from director Alex Holmes proves these female pioneers are still a cause for celebration.
