Dear Athens and Ohio University Community,
We will be temporarily closing Athena Cinema for the summer and moving much of our typical programming to alternate community locations. The closure of the building through the summer will accommodate urgent building maintenance that was identified in a recent inspection of the property. Proceeding with immediate repairs will ensure the integrity of our historic building.
If you have a ticket to an event, or a reservation for a rental, we will be in touch in the coming weeks to make sure alternate arrangements can be made.
We look forward to celebrating the 108th anniversary of the Athena Cinema throughout the summer and when we reopen. We’ll also be keeping our historic marquee lights on, finding ways to present programming in alternate locations whenever possible and providing regular updates to our valued theater patrons and community members.
