From the Hills and Hollers: WALK THE LINE with Adam Remnant

Viewing: April 01,2027

Watch Trailer

Join us Thursday, April 1st, at 7:00 p.m. as our Appalachian Stories Film Series concludes with an Oscar-nominated bio-pic of the legendry “Man in Black” — Johnny Cash!

Admission is FREE – Tickets are required

About the film

Academy Award-winner Joaquin Phoenix dons the mantle of one of music’s most revered performers in the life-spanning drama about the one-and-only Johnny Cash. Delving into the major touchstones of Cash’s life, this film from James Mangold (Cop Land, A Complete Unknown) shows Cash’s evolution as a young boy of humble beginnings with a harsh father, to his early successes as a recording artist, to his fateful encounter with June Carter – the love of his life – and, ultimately to his rise to becoming one of the biggest superstars and pop culture icons in the history of music. Even with this major success, though, Johnny Cash has always found a way to keep his humanity, his spirituality, his love, and his talent from making him stray too far from walking the line, instead making music that makes sense to sensible people.

About the speaker

Adam Remnant is a songwriter/musician, photographer, and educator living in Athens, Ohio. Remnant got his start in music fronting the folk-rock band Southeast Engine. As the principal singer and songwriter of the band, Remnant and his bandmates garnered critical acclaim releasing five albums and touring across the United States and Canada. In 2013, Remnant began plotting his way forward as a solo artist. He assembled a little studio in his basement and earnestly began writing & recording the songs that comprise the 2016 EP, When I Was a Boy, as well as the 2018 LP, Sourwood. 2024 saw the release of the Sunrise at the Sunset Motel EP and the full length, BIG DOORS. The new recordings are performed by Adam Remnant and his working band, the Signs. Additionally, Adam is a passionate photographer and works as an arts education administrator at Stuart’s Opera House in Southeast Ohio.

FRANKENSTEIN – Last Day: Thursday, November 13th

Watch Trailer Director: Guillermo del Toro
Cast: Oscar Isaac, Jacob Elordi, Mia Goth, Christoph Waltz

Guillermo del Toro, the visionary cinematic mind behind such stunning and award-winning films as Pan’s Labyrinth and The Shape of Water, sets his sights on a new adaptation of Mary Shelley’s timeless literary character…Frankenstein!

Though the story is well-known, del Toro excels at exploring the humanity in the classic monster — a misunderstood, terrifying being created piece-meal by a gifted, egocentric scientist who lends his surname to the creature. With a cast led by Oscar Isaac, this epic gothic tale that examines how our creations can ultimately lead to our destruction also features strong performances from Jacob Elordi (as The Creature), Mia Goth and Christoph Waltz.

SHELBY OAKS – Last Day: Thursday, November 6th

Watch Trailer

Film Critic and YouTuber Chris Stuckmann helms this new project that carries on the tradition of pseudo-documentary/found-footage fictional horror films like The Blair Witch Project and Lake Mungo!

Premised on the burning question “Who took Riley Brennan..?”, Shelby Oaks begins with what is alleged to be the last surviving film footage of a ghost-hunting YouTube celebrity who disappeared under mysterious circumstances in the abandoned town of Shelby Oaks. The footage demonstrates that, whatever the ultimate cause of Brennan’s disappearance, her final moments were ones of trauma and fear. From there, the film evolves into a true-crime-style documentary that follows the efforts of Brennan’s sister who has been searching for her missing sibling for the past decade. Finally, the film switches gears yet again by introducing a narrative cinematic approach that exposes the true horror that Riley encountered and is sure to scare the bejeezus out of you!

SPRINGSTEEN: DELIVER ME FROM NOWHERE – Last Day: Thursday, November 13th

Watch Trailer

Filmmaker Scott Cooper (Crazy HeartOut of the FurnaceBlack Mass) brings to the big screen a long-awaited biopic of a legend of American music…Bruce Springsteen!

Chronicling the making of the 1982 album Nebraska — a pivotal, stripped-down departure from the high-intensity albums The Boss had previously made up until that point — Deliver Me From Nowhere uses the 2023 book by Warren Zanes as the basis to tell the story of what was happening in Bruce Springsteen’s life as the 1980s dawned, what inspired him to take a musical u-turn, and how the music industry struggled to accept a batch of songs that didn’t align with their vision of a burgeoning rock-n-roll icon.

Starring Jeremy Allen White, the supporting cast includes Jeremy Strong, Stephen Graham, Marc Maron, and Odessa Young.
