Pre-Show Trivia

Admission is FREE – Tickets are required

Seating starts at 7:00 p.m. and the film will begin at 7:30 p.m.

This year, we’re celebrating Halloween with one of the best fantasy movies of all time! Once again, we’ve teamed up with local movie-lovers Dr Gordon Briggs and Brandon Thompson to bring you another dose Horror In Color. As always, Gordon and Brandon will be in-costume as their favorite characters from Pan’s Labyrinth, so we encourage you to follow suit!

About the film

It’s 1944 and the Allies have invaded Nazi-held Europe. In Spain, a troop of soldiers are sent to a remote forest to flush out the rebels. They are led by Capitan Vidal, a murdering sadist, and with him are his new wife Carmen and her daughter from a previous marriage, 11-year-old Ofelia. Ofelia witnesses her stepfather’s sadistic brutality and is drawn into Pan’s Labyrinth, a magical world of mythical beings.

Pan’s Labyrinth has been hailed by critics, added to the top of many “Top 10” lists, and earned Oscars for Art Direction, Cinematography, and Makeup. It is regarded as one of Guillermo del Toro’s best films!

Heroes In Color: BLADE

Watch Trailer

Join us Friday, February 6th at 7:00 p.m. as we kick off our 3rd Annual Heroes In Color film series with an action-packed movie that is sure to draw some blood!

FREE Admission – Tickets are required

This event will include a special cocktail and a pre-show trivia contest with prizes for the winner!

About the film

Say hello to Blade! Equal parts human-and-vampire, he’s a “daywalker” — in other words, he’s blessed with most of the supernatural attributes of his blood-thirsty brethren but with few of their vulnerabilities (although, he does have to drink human blood from time to time) which makes him the ultimate vampire hunter! It’s a good thing too, because Blade’s city is set to become ground zero for a strange ritual that seeks to re-awaken a long-slumbering vampire deity. There’s in-fighting within the ranks of the blood-suckers, however, as elder pure-blood elites and younger converts vie for power. This may give Blade just the advantage he needs to put a stop to their nefarious plans.

Based on a Marvel Comics character originally created in 1973 in the pages of Tomb of Dracula, Blade is the first installment of a multi-film franchise starring Wesley Snipes and the late-great Kris Kristofferson. This classic 1998 superhero film is guaranteed to get your blood up!

Heroes In Color: HERO

Watch Trailer

Join us Friday, February 20th at 7:00 p.m. as our Heroes In Color Film Series takes you on a heroic journey to ancient China for a martial arts masterpiece!

FREE Admission – Tickets are required

This event will include a special cocktail and a pre-show trivia contest with a prize for the winner!

About the film

Martial arts master Jet Li stars as “Nameless” an assassin tasked with eliminating Qin Shihuang — the man who would later go on to become the historic first emperor of China. In a series of narratives from different angles of the epic story (similar to the technique used by Akira Kurosawa in Rashomon) we learn that Nameless is not the only one seeking to terminate the king, and we see him effectively thwart the efforts of the competing assassins, thereby earning the graciousness and trust of the monarch he originally set out to hunt down. However, Nameless was, after all, a killer sent to kill the king and there will be consequences for this transgression.

Nominated for both a Golden Globe and an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film upon its release in 2002, Hero has earned a rightful place as one of the most visually-striking and dramatically-compelling martial arts films of all time.

FREE Admission – Tickets are required

This event will include a special cocktail and a pre-show trivia contest with prizes for the winner!

About the film

Leroy Green (aka “Bruce Leeroy”), an inner-city youth and kung fu afficionado whose idol is Bruce Lee, learns from his master that he has nearly risen to the ultimate level of martial arts mastery known as “The Last Dragon” which will imbue him with a mystical power called The Glow. Green thus embarks on a quest through the gritty streets of New York to track down another master who may be able to help him to achieve this special goal. However, a real bad dude known as Sho’nuff, the self-proclaimed “Shogun of Harlem”, catches wind of Leroy’s abilities and challenges the youth to a duel to see whose fighting skills glow the brightest and who deserves to wear the crown as the baddest butt-kicker in the city!

Released in 1985, this film broke with tradition by featuring a mostly-black cast in a kung-fu action movie. Additionally, it was produced by Motown’s head-honcho Barry Gordy and, as a result, boasts a soundtrack that includes the smooth sounds of artists like DeBarge, Smokey Robinson, The Temptations, Rockwell, and Stevie Wonder. Horror In Color: TALES FROM THE HOOD

Watch Trailer Director: Rusty Cundieff
Cast: Clarence Williams III, Corbin Bernsen, Rosalind Cash

One Night Only: Friday, October 25th at 7:00 p.m.

Join us for a special event screening of the classic horror film from 1992!

Admission is FREE, but tickets are required

Halloween will be here before you know it! So, as a riff on the fantastic Heroes In Color Series we did earlier this year, we’ve teamed up once again with local movie-lovers Dr Gordon Briggs and Brandon Thompson to bring you a scarier version: Horror In Color!

About the Film

With its prefect fusion of horror and black comedy, Tales From The Hood is a laugh-out-loud 90’s classic that weaves together an anthology of four stories that deal with issues related to life in the inner city. Clarence Williams III (“Link” from The Mod Squad) stars as “Mr Simms”, an eccentric, drug-dealing funeral parlor owner who encounters Stack, Ball, and Bulldog – three gangstas who come to the parlor for a hook-up – and takes the young G’s on a tour of the stories associated with the bodies awaiting their final resting place.

The stories include: “Rogue Cop Revelation”, a tale about the revenge of a murdered civil rights activist who haunts some perpetrators of police corruption; “Boys Do Get Bruised”, a voodoo-esque story about a boy who suffers domestic abuse from his mother’s boyfriend; “KKK Comeuppance”, a racist politician is tormented by an evil doll; and “Hard-Core Convert”, a homicidal gangster is sent to prison where he is torturously forced to atone for killing so many innocent black people from his own community.

With its nod to classic anthologies like Tales From The Crypt and Dead of Night, this fun film is an excellent mix of edge-of-your-seat horror and biting satire. The supporting cast includes Corbin Bernsen, Tom Wright, Brandon Hammond, David Alan Grier, and Rosalind Cash; and, the soundtrack is rife with great rap songs from some of the best artists of the genre, including Wu-Tang Clan, Ol’ Dirty Bastard, MC Eiht, and Gravediggaz.

This event has been made possible by the following sponsors: The Mathson Family and The Pub, The Ohio University Division of Diversity & Inclusion, and The Ohio Arts Council
