CONCLAVE

Watch Trailer Director: Edward Berger
Cast: Ralph Fiennes, Stanley Tucci, John Lithgow, Isabella Rossellini

The death of a pope is a world-changing event, especially if you are one of the select few who is tasked with selecting a successor. Two-time Academy Award nominee Ralph Fiennes stars as “Cardinal Lawrence”, a senior member of the Catholic clergy in Rome who, in the wake of the current pope’s demise, is given the responsibility of convening the College of Cardinals and holding an election to decide who will lead the largest Christian organization on the globe – an election that takes place in a secret, sequestered ceremony known as a “conclave”. Complicating matters further is the fact that the former pope had secrets that begin coming to light as the group members make their cases for who the new pope should be. Moreover, Lawrence himself is a strong candidate who may have to face-off with a challenger while the fate and future direction of The Church hangs in the balance.

Based on the novel by Robert Harris and featuring an acclaimed cast, Conclave is sure to appeal to fans of films like 12 Angry Men – a film that takes viewers to an inner sanctum where intense discussions are had, disparate opinions and ambitions clash, and the final outcome is uncertain until the very end.

From award-winning Italian director Uberto Pasolini comes a fresh re-telling of Homer’s classic epic poem The Odyssey starring Ralph Fiennes, Juliette Binoche, and Charlie Plummer.

While it is satisfying to feel the ground of his homeland beneath his feet once again, all is not well in his kingdom: His wife, Penelope (Binoche), is beset by suitors who have been trying for years to undermine her resolve to wait for her husband’s return and who threaten the life of her son, Telemachus, lest he vie for his right to sit on the throne of his father. So that he may win back control of his realm, the wily Odysseus must use his skills as a fearless warrior and his indomitable cunning to rid Ithaca of all who fail to herald the return of its long lost king.

Daniel Craig and Drew Starkey star in A24’s new romantic drama based on the classic novel by William S. Burroughs!

William Lee (Craig), based on the real-life Burroughs, has fled to Mexico City in order to escape the repercussions of a drug bust back in the states. Burroughs.

Embodying Burroughs’ alter ego and cycling through Lee’s lust, jealousy, world-weariness, neediness, and bliss, Craig cracks this smitten, doomed romantic wide open. It’s the role of a lifetime if you hold nothing back. So he doesn’t.

BETWEEN THE TEMPLES

Watch Trailer Director: Nathan Silver
Cast: Jason Schwartzman, Carol Kane, Robert Smigel, Dolly de Leon

Jason Schwartzman stars as Ben Gottleib, an aging Jewish man who serves as cantor to the congregation of his synagogue – a role which is responsible for leading the chanting and choral components during religious rituals, and which requires years of rigorous education. All is not well in Ben’s life, though: he’s lost not only his voice, but also his wife to a freak accident and, as a result, his will to live. Like all good Jewish families, Ben’s two mothers attempt to salve his wounds by setting him up with the daughter of the local rabbi; however, he has a chance encounter with Carla, his grade school music teacher (played by the magnificent Carol Kane), who, like Ben, is also a widower and may have just what it takes to help Ben find some harmony again.

The latest film from Nathan Silver, Between the Temples is a dram-edy that explores life, love, loss, and languishing through the lens of tradition and unorthodoxy. Critics have praised the on-screen chemistry between Schwartzman and Kane, as well as the excellent performances from the supporting cast which includes Robert Smigel, Dolly de Leon, and Caroline Arnold.
