OU Family Weekend: MONTY PYTHON AND THE HOLY GRAIL 50th Anniversary

Watch Trailer

Seek no further, for thou hast found the Holy Grail!

Continuing our long tradition for OU Family Weekend, we’re thrilled to announce a special event that will make your “knights” in Athens unforgettable — Join us Friday, September 19th and Saturday, September 20th at 7 p.m. for some classic medieval British comedy as we screen one of the craziest films of all time: Monty Python and The Holy Grail!

This year marks the monumental 50th anniversary of this timelessly hilarious film from one of the world’s greatest comedy troupes!

Admission $8

About the Film

Poking fun at the revered legend of King Arthur and his Knights of The Round Table, the troupe of Pythons pull out all the comedic stops for a wild (and irreverent) ride through the misty Dark Ages! Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Michael Palin, Eric Idle, Terry Jones, and Terry Gilliam are in top form as various characters in some of the most side-splitting material ever put on screen. Bits like “The Knights Who Say Ni!”, “The Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch”, “The Trojan Rabbit”, and “The Black Knight” have etched themselves permanently on the landscape of comedy like the ornate letters in an old biblical manuscript!

Maybe your mother isn’t a hamster, and perhaps your father doesn’t smell like elderberries, but one thing’s for sure — watching this film together will give you and your family a (Came)lot of good times to share!

Sibs Weekend: THE BOY AND THE HERON (English Dubbed)

Watch Trailer Director: Hayao Miyazaki
Writer(s): Hayao Miyazaki
Cast: Voices by: Robert Pattinson, Karen Fukuhara, Gemma Chan, Christian Bale, Mark Hamill, Florence Pugh, Willem Dafoe, Dave Bautista

The Athena is excited to present the THE BOY AND THE HERON for Sibs Weekend 2024!

About the film

Set during WWII, THE BOY AND THE HERON tells the story of Mahito Maki, a young boy who loses his mother and is evacuated with his father from the city to the country to escape the ravages of war. Mahito, burdened by grief and struggling to adjust to his new surroundings, finds himself pestered by a grey heron. While pursuing the bird, Mahito is led to a strange stone tower where he discovers that the structure and the bird are gateways to a world beyond his imagination.

Having announced retirement almost a decade ago, Hayao Miyazaki instead persevered and began storyboarding THE BOY AND THE HERON in 2016 — it seemed that he had one final, fantastic story to tell. In production for nearly seven years and, allegedly, the most expensive film ever made in Japan, Miyazaki’s latest (and last) film has been hailed by critics as a masterpiece of animation filled with characters and themes that exemplify the breadth of Miyazaki’s illustrious career as one of the greatest animators and storytellers in the entertainment industry.

OU PARENTS WEEKEND: Monty Python and the Holy Grail: Sing Along!

Watch Trailer Director: Terry Gilliam, Terry Jones
Writer(s): Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Eric Idle, Terry Gilliam, Terry Jones, Michael Palin
Cast: Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Eric Idle, Terry Gilliam, Terry Jones, Michael Palin

We’re celebrating OU Parents weekend with a showing of MONTY PYTHON AND THE HOLY GRAIL, a classic comedy sure to have your parents in stitches.

From its opening multi-language titles (that sure looks like Swedish) to the closing arrest of the entire Dark Ages cast by modern-day bobbies, Monty Python and the Holy Grail helped to define “irreverence” and became an instant cult classic. This time the Pythonites savage the legend of King Arthur, juxtaposing some excellently selected exterior locations with an unending stream of anachronistic one-liners, non sequiturs, and slapstick set pieces. The Knights of the Round Table set off in search of the Holy Grail on foot, as their lackeys make clippety-clop sounds with coconut shells.

The Re-Imagined Score: MODERN TIMES by Duo Unprepared

Director: Charlie Chaplin
Cast: Charlie Chaplin

After an unforgettable performance last year, the Athena is over the moon to have Duo Unprepared return this OU Parents Weekend for two encore live musical performances set to Charlie Chaplin’s Modern Times. Join us September 29th & 30th for a magical event that cannot be passed up!

And don’t missed another two nights of Duo Unprepared re-imagining the score to 2001: A Space Odyssey this December!

Modern Times, Charlie Chaplin’s last outing as the Little Tramp, puts the iconic character to work as a giddily inept factory employee who becomes smitten with a gorgeous gamine (Paulette Goddard). With its barrage of unforgettable gags and sly commentary on class struggle during the Great Depression, Modern Times—though made almost a decade into the talkie era and containing moments of sound (even song!)—is a timeless showcase of Chaplin’s untouchable genius as a director of silent comedy.

About Duo Unprepared

Roger Braun (percussion) and Andre Gribou (pianos) have worked together in a wide variety of performance settings since 2000. While this includes completely improvised music – where they found they had an unusual chemistry – they also perform frequently together in classical, jazz, and world music settings. As their affinity for performing improvised music together grew they began to collaborate with other artists including world-renown improvisational dancers, Chris Aiken and Angie Hauser. Braun and Gribou have appeared on numerous concert series including Washington D.C.’s Dance Place performance series, the University of Michigan, Ohio University, and Denison University. With frequent collaborator, percussionist, Anthony Di Sanza, they recently performed in Chateau d’Oex, Switzerland at the 2015 International Society for Improvised Music Conference and a tour of Wisconsin Universities.
